Spider Veins
Spider and other leg veins develop when the small valves contained within the veins fail to function properly. Spider veins usually appear on the calves, back of the legs and knees.
Causes
Most spider veins are caused by venous hypertension or pregnancy. Some contributing factors include:
- Genetics
- Pregnancy
- Hormones
- Prolonged sitting or standing
- Sudden changes in weight
Treatment
The treatment plan your provider creates will depend upon the location of your spider veins. These include:
- Sclerotherapy
- Laser therapy
There are steps you can take to reduce your chances of developing spider veins.
- Exercise regularly
- Maintain a healthy weight
- Elevate your legs while resting
