Rashes
A rash refers to a change that affects the skin and usually appears as a red patch or small bumps or blisters on the skin. Rashes can be a symptom of other skin problems.
Symptoms
Rashes fall into three categories – rashes caused by fungus or bacteria; common, non-infectious rashes; and viral rashes. Some of the most common rashes include eczema, heat rash and poison ivy. Symptoms of skin rashes include:
- Blister development
- Scaling of the skin
- Ulcerated open sores on the skin
- Skin discoloration
- Bumps on the skin
- Itching
Treatments
Treatments for rashes vary depending on severity and type of rash. Treatment options may include:
- Removing the irritant from your environment
- Anti-itch medicines with hydrocortisone
- Moisturizers
- Oral antihistamines
