Many aesthetic procedures are focused on women, but they aren’t the only ones interested in cosmetic treatments to get the physique they want. One of the most popular services we offer is CoolSculpting for men because it’s an effective way to reduce stubborn body fat.

Read on to learn how fat-freezing works, and get the information you need to figure out if this service is right for you.

“Does body contouring really work?” This is a question we often hear during consultations with male patients struggling to get rid of unwanted fat with diet and exercise alone.

When the question comes up, we’re happy to tell them the answer is yes—CoolSculpting for men can help men slim down and achieve their desired body.

What is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is a non-invasive fat reduction treatment that uses cold temperatures to destroy individual fat cells. By doing so, these fat cells are then taken up by the body and excreted as waste.

CoolSculpting is based on a process called cryolipolysis, in which the targeted areas of fat are cooled to freezing temperatures, which causes them to gradually break down over time.

These fat cells that are treated don’t return, but if a person gains more weight, the remaining fat cells will be overfilled, and the areas that have been treated with CoolSculpting for men can recur.

How long does a treatment take?

CoolSculpting treatments typically last for about one hour, during which time you can relax, read, or even take a nap.

When will I see results?

The results can be seen in a few weeks after treatment and the effects of CoolSculpting can be permanent.

How many CoolSculpting sessions are necessary to see results?

This varies from patient to patient. Some patients see the results they want after just one session. The number of CoolSculpting for men treatments you need will depend on the amount of reduction you desire.

Although CoolSculpting provides a minimal amount of skin tightening, the focus of the treatment is to reduce, or “sculpt,” those bothersome areas. We find that many patients who initially come in to treat one area, often return to treat other areas due to the success of their initial treatment.

What can you do to make sure your CoolSculpting results last?

CoolSculpting for men is an effective fat reduction treatment to help you get the sculpted body you want. However, it’s important to take proper care of your body in order to maintain the results.

Here are some tips for keeping CoolSculpting's effects going strong:

  • Eat a healthy diet: Eating a balanced diet is important for maintaining your CoolSculpting results. Make sure to include plenty of fruits and vegetables in your diet—as well as lean proteins—to help build and repair muscle tissue.
  • Exercise regularly: In addition to eating a healthy diet, it’s essential to include regular exercise in your routine. This will not only help you maintain your CoolSculpting results but can also help you achieve your fitness goals. Try incorporating strength training, cardio exercises, and other types of physical activity to stay fit and healthy.

What areas of a man’s body can be treated using CoolSculpting?

Two common areas treated in men are the chest (“moobs”) and love handles. This treatment focuses on superficial fat, which is why both of these problem areas in men can be treated effectively using CoolSculpting for men. The number of sessions you’ll need depends on the amount of fat in these areas that need to be eliminated to give you more definition.

Another area that is often treated is the abdomen (stomach). Here the expectations of treatment must be defined. CoolSculpting does not disrupt visceral (or deep) fat, so if you have a large beer belly or excessive girth, it won’t respond well to this treatment method.

On the other hand, the male patient who is exercising, eating well, and just can’t get that roll of fat to reduce is a great candidate for CoolSculpting.

Does CoolSculpting leave sagging skin or cause cellulite?

CoolSculpting for men won’t leave you with sagging skin or make your cellulite look worse. However, it is not considered a treatment for skin tightening or reducing the appearance of cellulite.

What are the benefits of CoolSculpting for men?

As a fat reduction alternative to liposuction, some of the other benefits of CoolSculpting for men include:

  • Fast recovery: CoolSculpting has a quicker recovery period (and fewer potential complications) than having liposuction.
  • Minimal side effects: The most common side effects of CoolSculpting are mild swelling, bruising, and cold sensations. These side effects usually resolve within a few days, and most people are able to return to their normal activities right away.
  • Effectiveness: It’s not uncommon for some patients to see results after having only one treatment.
  • Safety: CoolSculpting is FDA-cleared for use on the abdomen, flanks, and thighs and its risks are few and rare.

What are the downsides to CoolSculpting?

The side effects of CoolSculpting include short-term discomfort from temporary redness and possible bruising and tenderness in the areas treated. You can resume regular activities shortly after your fat-targeting CoolSculpting treatment depending on your soreness.

An uncommon side effect is a “pins and needles” type of stinging discomfort for one to two weeks after the treatment which will resolve on its own.

A very rare side-effect is fat hypertrophy (increasing fat), but if this occurs it can be corrected with liposuction.
