The American Academy of Dermatology sponsors skin screenings for the public free of charge. The purpose is to educate people about the significance of sun protection and early skin cancer detection. During the screening, self-examinations will be taught and are encouraged. Participants will be required to fill out the demographics section along with signing the “General Release Form” and “PHI” upon arrival to the screening. With signing the form, this allows for the academy to compile information for statistics. The provider conducting the screening will have participants initial the form if believed he or she has a precancerous or cancerous lesion and encourage the participant that follow up is necessary. All participants will be given a yellow copy at the end of the screening outlining the findings.
